New Year’s Holiday DUI Arrests Up

According to recent reports issued by the California Highway Patrol, the number of DUI arrests reported during the New Year’s holiday in certain areas has gone up, however, the number of accidents has lowered.

The reports show that in the Merced area, there were 50 percent fewer auto accidents during the last holiday period compared to the previous year. During the holiday, officers in the region made 17 DUI arrests, which is a considerably higher number than last year’s nine arrests.

Authorities believe that the lower number of accidents have something to do with the fact that law enforcement agencies have been cracking down on intoxicated drivers and educating the community on the dangers of intoxicated driving effectively.
