A deadly accident involving a teenager happened in Sacramento. We are reporting on this collision to remind drivers that whenever you’re involved in an accident, you should do all in your power to stay in the scene of the accident until authorities arrive.
The crash happened when a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on Business Interstate 80 on Wednesday afternoon got off the El Camino Ave offramp. As the vehicle continued, the driver lost control and the truck went off the road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the truck ended up overturning several times, causing the passenger of the truck, a 17-year-old, to be ejected. The teen was later declared dead at the hospital.
After the teen was ejected, the truck continued, hitting a black Volkswagon GTI that had been stopped in the second lane of southbound Business 80 onramp from westbound El Camino Avenue.
After the truck came to a stop, the driver left the vehicle and ran away, going to his home. Authorities found the man and then arrested him. Three other passengers who had been in the truck were rushed to hospitals where they were treated for injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
While the driver was later caught, it’s important to remind our readers that authorities often take a long time to track the driver down in many of these hit-and-run accidents.
Unfortunately, many drivers who run away do so out of fear but if they do so, they may face the legal consequences.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones. We hope they are receiving the attention and support they require in this time of need. We also hope that those who were injured as a result of this accident are being able to recover quickly and fully.
