An accident involving a passenger car near Truckee shows just how important it is for drivers to always slow down when the road is wet, icy, and slippery.
According to a series of news reports, a vehicle ended up submerged in a deep water puddle off Interstate 80. The mountain stretch of the road is dangerous for drivers this time of the year because of the wet and icy conditions. Officials with the California Highway Patrol have confirmed that the driver may have been driving too fast for the conditions and as a result, the vehicle hit a patch of slush, causing it to slide off the side road.
While the driver was able to get himself out of the car, authorities had to tow the vehicle out of the puddle.
The Wednesday accident reminds us all that when speeding in slippery roads, the consequences can be serious and even deadly.
After the major fires California experienced in the past couple of months and the big rains that followed, landslides and muddy conditions may be a norm in many areas across the Golden State. Drivers must beware of the risks and act accordingly so that accidents are avoided.
If you will be doing a lot of road driving anytime soon, check the weather report and keep up with news put out by officials close to you. If you learn that patch of the road you’re taking is icy and slippery, avoid that route together or slow down considerably. Otherwise, you might end up being involved in a similar accident.
Officials have claimed that this accident did not result in any injuries and for that, we’re thankful.
But many other victims of drowsy driving result in major and even deadly accidents regularly. So that drivers play their part in keeping the road safe, they must, at first, remember that driving is a serious responsibility and cannot be used to hurt anyone.
