As you may know, school is back in session. If you are a parent, you might be witnessing firsthand the problems associated with the thousands of children and teens heading back to class. And as such, you might be aware that many drivers seem to forget just how important being safe drivers near school zones is.

If you aren’t a parent, you might not be as aware of the risks. Regardless, you’re still going to be driving across town.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officials have been putting together school bus pedestrian safety operations in certain Californian counties in order to make sure that drivers are acting accordingly near students and pedestrians in general.

The first one of these operations happened after a California Department of Education learned that out of 137 state school districts, more than 26,000 drivers had failed to properly stop for school buses who were either loading or unloading passengers.

After learning about this high number, the CHP decided to act, starting to launch operations to focus on school bus safety.

Still, the CHP can’t be in all places at all times.

Drivers must make sure they are doing all in their power to be safe at all times by making sure that they are not distracted and they are focused on the road ahead. They also must make sure that they are aware of the rules and that they are following them.

Accidents involving children are terrifying and often serious in nature. As personal injury attorneys with years of experience in the field, we’ve seen many accidents involving children that resulted in severe injuries.

Because children are vulnerable and may experience serious injuries depending on the accident, victims and their parents often suffer to cover the cost of the medical treatment and sometimes, they may even lose wages in order to stay home to take care of their injured children. Victims should not get stuck with the bills when the guilty party is allowed to roam freely.
